Has nyasa times gone too far?

as much as we appreciate this webpage to be a mouth piece for the UDF and Bakili Muluzi and respect their freedom of expression, it has increasingly become alarming to comprehend the tactics employed to discredit their foes the DPP and the current president.

With articles based on half truths and empty reckless unethical statements, this web page is not only defaming their opponents, the DPP and Mr Mutharika but essentially defaming Malawi as a whole in proportions never seen before in our history.

Here is the thing, when a reporter to the mentioned webpage writes how Malawi has 'a rotten society' and fails terribly to substantiate it merely for political gain, then Malawi we have a big problem. This problem does not become one of the DPP or Mutharika alone but it becomes a problem for every Malawian. Here is why, the internet, rightly called the 'world wide web' is accessed by many millions across regions and continents , including potential investors to Malawi. Unfortunately, what the editor if there is one at this blog is oblivious about is the fact that potential investors use the internet to get information on Malawi to determine the political, economic and social systems of the country to arrive at a critical decisions of investment. Now when this blog starts making claims that are simply not true they in essence are hurting our economy where we could have benefitted.

It is common knowledge in the 21st century that foreign direct investment (FDI) is the bed rock for any economy.Star performers, Botswana, Rwanda, South Africa all rely heavily on this open secret. Part of their strategy is to give investors confidence by among other things building a good reputation for their countries through good PR. All over the world governments are spending millions to give respective countries good reputations to encourage investment or tourism. Africa is the only continent on the planet that has lagged and not caught on to the idea yet in this regard.
The UK has the BBC in the PR game, the US has CNN, South Africa has SABC and then there is nyasatimes. There is something terribly wrong here.

Indeed Nyasatimes has gone too far. There is too much foul language in the name of free press to discredit whatever Bingu and his team are doing.Muluzi did a lot of damage to this country but they cannot say anything but hand clapping for his nasty activities. They cannot say anything on his comeback as President knowing they will benefit. He lost the Third term and open term bids which could have made them backtrack their effort to come back. But their intentions are just to remove Bingu.Nothing else.If they have an axe to gring against Bingu then its not for everyone in this country but personal.Much as we cannot rule out anger from what Bingu did by ditching him that does not warrant every malawian to join hands in their campaign to oust him.He is doing fine though with ups and downs. The chair told us that time for politics is over its now time to shape malawis future economically with Bingu leading us (of which he has done)but see today what they preach to us that he is a bad man.Shame on them.Malawians will never be fooled again we have our eyes opened now!!!!!!

The tobacco lobby has ruined the country. Malawi
is not producing enough food for its population.
You cannot eat tobacco and the stuff is dangerous for your lungs. Since 30 years the big shots are drumming
for tobacco. Did the population become rich through tobacco? Only a few thousands profit from it, the others go hungry.
STOP TOBACCO PLANTING AND
PRODUCE MORE MAIZE!!!!!

Muluzi should not come back. He did not solve the
major problem of Malawi-hunger-. Agriculture was neglected during his time
and he continued to drum with the big shots for producing more and more tobacco. The economy of Malawi must be changed to save human lives. This time
many people go hungry again and many farmers are
suffering with their family.
We need a new government and
a new economy, both have to serve the people and not the other way around.

true to their name nyasa news they do not bring any constructive ideas to the table. All they are interested in is their own interests and those of their master bakili muluzi and the little e business they think they have going with their site. Pathetic

Please Nyasa times think of our country not Muluzi.
BIngu is doing a good job let him continue dont let Muluzi to come back and mess our country and economy again.
I believe its God who told Muluzi to chose Bingu and no matter what may Its up to him to chose what is best for Malawians.
Big No to muluzi.

From a purely journalistic perspective, Nyasatimes frequently fails to reference sources and has so many typos that the commonly mixed up 'l' and 'r' in spoken Malawian English is reflected in the written text.

Probably one of the most scandlous articles was one that claimed Malawi was the poorest country in the world. The supposed source for this was the CIA factbook, which is a resource available for any internet user...and Malawi definitely does not lie at no. 1 in the world's poorest ranking.

As for the content of some of the stories, I leave other bloggers to comment on that.

I feel sorry for people who support Muluzi. To me, I think they are selfish and to say they are ignorant or they don't move with the times will be an underestimation of the fact, because some of them are people with good education. They are people who feel happy when other people are suffering while they are floating in big monies on the expense of poor Malawians. While I appreciate that no man is perfect, but I feel Bingu has tried to lift peoples hope at the time the country was loosing direction while our friends were sorting out their economies. We need a leader with a vision. A vision which can yield both short and long term results. We don't need a leader who thinks by ditching out MK50's then he has solved the problems of Malawians. We don't eat politics but leaders with good policies will help a poor Malawian to afford to bring food on the table.

Let me congratulate the work of the MEC for turning down the candidency of Bakili Muluzi. The biggest tragedy that happened to Malawi was when we put in power a man with no vision for the nation. Why is this man who has no shame for the poor management of the country yet he tries to bounce back. He was a complete failure and total waste of time. With his corruption case pending in the courts, why does he just honorably come out of politics. The main reason Elson Bakili Muluzi wants to come back is because he has clandestine unfinished business which have nothing to do with development but his self evil ambitions. It was this same business that motivated him to seek an open term or third term. Malawians open your eyes and at no time should he be allowed to step into that office again.

Nyasa Times will never get it. Even its financial reporting is crap. How could they understand the financial implications of their articles. they are making Malawi poorer than Muluzi ever did.
